Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be VAT registered?
You must register if your VAT-taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period, or you expect it to in the next 30 days. You can also register voluntarily below that, which can make sense if your customers are mainly VAT-registered businesses.
Can you run payroll if I'm the only employee?
Yes. Many company directors pay themselves a small salary through payroll. We run it, file the RTI submissions and make sure the salary is set at a tax-efficient level.
Which bookkeeping software should I use?
It depends on your business and how you like to work. Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent are popular options and all work with Making Tax Digital. We'll recommend one that suits you and help set it up.
Can I do my own bookkeeping and have you check it?
Yes. Many clients keep their own records in cloud software, and we review them each quarter and at the year end. It keeps costs down and catches any problems early.
